Perched on the peninsula that juts into the Aegean Sea beyond Marmaris, Datca is probably like Marmaris was in the days before it sold out to mass tourism. It's a sleepy place where you go to eat seafood, shop in fairly upscale carpet and jewelry shops and take boat excursions to see the ruins of the Greek city of Knidos. You can also take a ferry to the Greek islands of Rhodes and Symi. The most pleasant accommodations are 3 mi/5 km from the center in Eski Datca. 250 mi/395 km south of Izmir.
